About the Gallery
The VU ART SCIENCE gallery focuses on the interaction between art and science. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam initiated the gallery, as it encourages the exchange of multidisciplinary knowledge. We call on scientists and artists to participate in this exchange. This is needed to address some of the most pressing challenges we face as a society. The urgency and complexity of today’s issues demand radical concepts which allow us to leave conventional paths behind and explore new directions.
Driven by a deep curiosity, artists and scholars are focusing on life and our environment on fundamental levels. The urgency and complexity of today’s issues demand radical concepts which allow us to leave conventional paths behind and explore new directions. We actively connect contemporary artists, scholars and students, and academic knowledge.
In the VU ART SCIENCE gallery, we invite artists, scholars and public to share their research, experiences and views regarding urgent topics in society. Twice a year we organize an exhibition and a series of accompanying ART SCIENCE dialogues, creating a multidisciplinary approach on topics that are currently at stake.
By connecting artists, scholars and public, we want to critically investigate the systems that build our society and create positive change for the future. Being part of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, we have a special focus on the system of knowledge production.
In the gallery, students provide tours through the exhibition. The gallery is located in New University Building that serves as home for science & culture. Admission is free.
